  1. Verse 40 - "They called the apostles in and had them flogged."

Verse 41 - "The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name."

I almost missed the part about them being flogged. It was when I read in verse 41 about them rejoicing for suffering disgrace that I re-read why they were disgraced.

When I take a stand for Jesus, the message may not be well received and the outcome may be embarassing or disgraceful; but I should rejoice for being counted worthy by my Creator.

This should ring in our ears as the ultimate "at a boy" compliment we could ever receive. Maybe I can be bolder with my testimony of Jesus, if I remind myself of the apostles rejoicing here in Acts 5. They were flogged, yet they rejoiced.

  2. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God."

We are not in battles of flesh and blood, but we are constantly in spiritual battles. It is so important to renew our minds daily and to put on the full armour of God so that we can withstand any attacks that Satan throws our way.

We must remember as man tells us to do something, to ask ourselves what is God telling us to do ?

A good example of this was that a company I worked for did not pay me for 3 weeks. Because of it my bank account went negative because of automatic withdrawals. God showed me in his word where you are to look the other way if someone wrongs you, or steals from you and to not take them to court. That was the only way I could get my money, but I stood on God's word and did not take them to court. I suffered lacking the hundreds of dollars that they cost me. But I thanked God every day and gave the situation to him. This week I got a call and the company decided to pay me everything that was lost. Not only that, I was able to minister to the gentleman on the other side of the phone. He wanted to know why I was crazy enough to go into work for 3 straight weeks not getting paid. I said, that's easy, I work for God, not for man. He asked more questions, and I was able to lead him to the sinners prayer.

It is amazing how god aligns things for us to be able to perform the jobs that he creates for us. I pray that we could all fine tune our listening skills to God's voice and that we could all be bold and have patience when it comes to the obedience of the Lord.
