  1. Exodus 12:27b-28 "After Moses finished speaking, the people of Israel knelt down and worshipped the Lord. Then they left and did what Moses and Aaron had told them to do."

Their first instinct was to worship and glorify the Lord, then to go and do what they had been told.

Worship FIRST, love Him, glorify Him, HE IS WORTHY, even in the midst of... our circumstances.

I am having an anxious morning, filled with uncertainty and questions. I know I need to worship FIRST, then GO AND DO what I know the Lord is calling me to do.

Lord, help me to do as the Israelites did. I love you and I praise you. You are worthy, even and especially in the midst of my circumstances. Help me to "go and do", remembering your faithfulness at all times.

  2. Verse 30 - "Pharaoh and all his officials and all Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead."

The Gospel message is very clear, you are either with Him or against Him. You either accept Christ as your Savior or you do not. You are either obedient to His word, or you are not. Some day, there will be great wailing hear on Earth, when people who are not with Him, realize that it is too late. That's what this verse speaks to me about, and it tells me there is a lot of work to do.

My prayer is that I will feel concern and compassion for those I encounter that are "against Him". I want to be bolder in my witnessing, and see what God sees when He looks upon those who are "lost".

Coincidentally, the verse I was referring to above, "He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters". This is found in Matthew - CHAPTER 12 - VERSE 30! I think that's pretty cool.

  3. verse 50, "All the Israelites did just what the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron."

What would it look like if I did just what the Lord commanded? Nothing else, just what He commanded. I wouldn't be influenced by society. I wouldn't be distracted from my assignment. I would live into my gifting. I would love completely.

This verse jumps out at me because it is rarely lived into. I think of Paul's letter to the Romans a few days ago when we read about how he doesn't do what he wants to do, as a matter of fact, he usually does what he doesn't want to do.

Obedience to God cannot be partial. Either you are obedient to God or not. I want to be obedient.

  4. verse 49: One law shall be to him that is homeborn, just as to the stranger who sojourns with you.
Here is the first Passover night, an unblemished lamb is slain so that it's blood may be used as a protection against death. And then I think of the last Passover night, in which Jesus was betrayed, to be sacrificed, without sin, so that His blood would be a protection against death. A sacrifice much more to be observed, when a burden heavier than that of Egypt was removed from our necks, and a land that was better than Canaan was set before us. Verse 49 tells me that the favor has been extended to me, as a stranger, who accepts the blood of Jesus as a protection against death, and stands at the same level as the homeborn Israelite to claim freedom from death and an eternal home.
Just as God instructed the Israelites to observe this thing as an ordinance to them and their sons forever (v24) so should I observe the act of communion as a remembrance of Him who sacrificed for me.

  6. I like this phrase that was sent to me last week. "Partial obedience= complete disobedience." Exodus reminds me that while God loves me unconditionally it is not without expectations of obedience.
