  1. Verse 1 - "Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro ...............and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb."

Notice how God prepares us ahead of time for the work He calls us to do.

Moses was "tending the flock" - he was taking care of and protecting the flock of Jethro that was entrusted to him. He was leading "the flock to the far side of the desert" - he had or was gaining experience of serving the needs, protecting, and leading the flock entrusted to him on a long journey. He would finish his journey, leading them to the end of the journey to a mountain called Horeb.

Sound familiar to what God was about to call him to do?

It doesn't appear Moses saw the similarity. How many times has God called me to do something that I felt unqualified to do? When I look back, I can see events that have happened, jobs I had, and skills I had used - now God was asking me to use the experiences and skills for His will.

In verse 12 God says, "I will be with you." He is with you. He is with me. He prepares us for the journey, and He goes with us. He never leaves me alone. Thank you, God.

  2. Verse 5, "'Do not come any closer,' God said. 'Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.'"

The presence of Almighty God is powerful. It is humbling. It is terrifying. That is good. We are told to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Moses is doing just that as he meets the presence of God in the bush.

How many times I wish for a burning bush experience! Why? Because I want God to tell me exactly what to do. Why don't we have burning bush experiences? Because God has already told us what to do. We still want the burning bush experience because we don't want to do the assignment given to us. And every time I write "us" I defintely mean me.

  3. Exodus 4:24 "At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met Moses and was about to kill him."

I have never noticed this scripture before - it really jumped out at me! WHAT?!!! God had chosen Moses to deliver the Israelites and on his way to see pharoah, God is going to kill Moses?! I am so confused? Where is this coming from?! Before Moses could go any further,he had to obey God's commands and circumcise his son. Before we can go deeper in our relationship with God, we have to "circumcise" our lives. We need to search and ask God to reveal where we have been or are being disobedient. Until we obey him in ALL His commands, we miss out on the blessings he intends for us.
WOW! Thanks for the revelation LORD!
